Introduction
The long wait of the battle between two “Kings” is almost near Godzilla vs Kong! This is the 3rd installment of the “Monster-verse Franchise” which was started from Kong: Skull Island (2017). This upcoming film will conclude the question, who will be the true “King of the Monsters”? Godzilla or Kong?

Due to the pandemic last year a lot of film productions and releases were postponed by the Lockdown protocols that happened worldwide.
However, this year sets to be a perfect time to release the postponed movies. There are a lot of Most Anticipated movies that will come out in the upcoming months so better watch out for it!
This month the two most anticipated movies to come out are Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Godzilla vs Kong. It comes to our mind to check out the data on Google Trends, to find out which of the two movies is the most anticipated to watch by the audiences.
As you can see in the results below. Godzilla vs Kong stands out compared to Justice League. Therefore, in this article, we will discuss what to expect in Godzilla vs Kong, and other things you should know first before watching it. With that being said, a SPOILER WARNING IS IN EFFECT.
Backstory and Build-up of the Monster-Verse
Kong Backstory
The Franchise of this film started in 2017’s Kong: Skull Island. Which was set after the Vietnam War (1955-1975). Where a team of scientists later admitted the true name of their Organizations called Monarch who studies the ancient being called “Titans” who lived in the ancient times as a protector of the planet.
As they went for a venture to explore and study Skull Island, later they met the guardian of the place, a Giant Gorilla named Kong. This resulted in to attack of them as Kong sees them be a threat to his territory.
In the post-credit scene of the movie, it was already teased that Kong is not the only “Titan” who is living in the world, and the scene showed some scriptures/images about the ancient rivalry between Kong’s and Godzilla’s ancestors.
Godzilla Backstory
In the 2014’s Godzilla, the monarch continues to study the remains and evidence about the titan’s existence. During the research on one of the test sites. One of the titans awakened from centuries of sleep.
Which attracted the others of its type to wake up and answer to the call of their “Queen” to reproduce their hatch-lings (imagine reproducing thousands of giant insect-like monsters, it seems to be the doomsday if that happens).
Godzilla Vs MUTOs
As the insect-like titans starting to regroup with their queen. Another titan emerges from the deepest levels of the ocean. Godzilla the dinosaur-like monster which somehow was attracted towards the locations of the insect-like monsters.
Dr. Ishiro Serizawa played by Ken Watanabe, is one the lead scientist who is also part of the new generation of Monarchs and also studies the existence of the titans, and tracks the insect-like monsters that awakened called MUTOs or “Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism”. Dr. Serizawa shows huge respect towards the titans and even more on Godzilla, As he sees Godzilla be the protector of the world and Godzilla will bring balance to nature.
Fast-forward, Godzilla eliminates some of the male MUTOs, upon reaching the location of the queen. A battle of monsters started, as Dr. Serizawa explains to the Military that they should help Godzilla to fight the MUTOs, which resulted in Godzilla and the Army won the battle. After the fight, Godzilla returns to the ocean. And Godzilla was recognized as a Savior by mankind.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) is the second film that was included in the “Monster-Verse” franchise. As the movie starts, Dr. Emma Russell and her Daughter Maddie are in a monarch test site as they observe a Titan that is starting to awake from a long sleep. As the titan awakened, it became threatened, it started to attack the other scientists.
Which allowed Dr. Russell to test her invention called the Orca. A device that she believes can communicate and even control the monsters. Which eventually proved the claims are true, as they were able to calm down the monster which they called Mothra a caterpillar-like monster.
However, as they celebrate the success from the result of the Orca, a group of eco-terrorists forced their way in and started eliminating the scientists which leave Dr. Russell and Maddie to be their hostage.
As the news was transferred to Dr. Serizawa, he decided to visit the ex-husband of Emma named Mark. To tell him about what happened to Maddie and Emma. Therefore, Mark decided to find his family.
Godzilla: King of monsters, The False King
As they move towards the marked location of the eco-terrorists. Dr. Serizawa explains to Mark that they have found Godzilla’s location as well. And they wanted to take a look because they received a report that Godzilla is showing signs of movement.
Fast-forward, as the story progresses it shows that the eco-terrorists and Emma are working together. because they are trying to revive a so-called “King of the Titans” named Ghidorah which is a Dragon/Hydra-like monster in a frozen state.
As they believed that if they can find the right wave of an “Alpha” using the Orca. They can control Ghidora. Unfortunately, they are wrong. Because as Ghidora wakes up he attacks everyone and started calling the other titans, and makes them hostile towards humans as well.
The Final Showdown, Godzilla Vs Ghidora
When Maddie realizes that her mother and the eco-terrorists are working together and that they made a serious mistake, Maddie decided to steal the Orca and run away from them.
As the team of Dr. Serizawa figured something out from the ancient scriptures, that Ghidora is not part of the balance made by the titans, it is an alien from outer space that landed on Earth millions of years ago, A “False King” which is now taking over the other titans and was recognized as their Alpha.
During the attacks that are happening, Maddie figured out to lure Ghidora to Boston where a lot of people already evacuated. As Ghidora being lured and arrived at Boston because of the waves from the Orca, Godzilla also arrived after being defeated from his first attempt to fight Ghidora.
And so, the battle of Kings started and ends as Godzilla won the fight. And now that the Ghidora is gone, Godzilla was recognized by the other Titans as the new King of Monsters. In the ending scene, it showed that the Eco-terrorists were able to retrieve Ghidora’s head which they will be using for their new experiment.
What are the things we should expect in the movie?
Who is the good guy?
Based on the trailers, It seems Kong is the “Good Guy” and with the help of a little girl. Who can communicate with Kong, they manage to bring him to fight Godzilla, because Godzilla became hostile towards humans and started attacking the Military bases.
However, Maddie thinks there is a reason why Godzilla went rogue against humans. Regardless, you will be expecting an Epic Kaiju Battle between the two!
Mecha-Godzilla Theories
There are some articles and even Youtuber claims that there will be an appearance of Mecha-Godzilla. It was made by a new antagonist organization named Apex Industries. This is a Fan-made theory that circulated online.
But who knows? If this is true. Surely this will be an Incredible CGI Fight, A Tag-team between Godzilla and Kong versus Mecha-Godzilla is definitely appealing to the eyes of the viewers.
Conclusions
Who will be the true “King of the Monsters”?
Both Godzilla and Kong are “Kings” in their respective territories, Godzilla is recognized to be the Alpha of the titans and protector of humans on earth, meanwhile, Kong is the King and the protector of Skull Island.
And since both of them are kings, A battle to declare who is the strongest and who should be recognized as the one true king of the titans.
Another thing, both of them are territorial and will not concede towards the other. This will be a long fight between the two. Also, it seems the movie will tie the loose ends and plot holes of the previous movies.
Take note that if you try to search in Google “Godzilla vs Kong Runtime” it will show 2 hours and 52 minutes runtime. But if you check on IMDB it is just only 1 hour 52 minutes.
Whichever of the two is the real runtime. Better prepare a lot of snacks and drinks. Because it will be a long epic fight!
